MOT View: Leeds officials will love what happened in World Cup game involving summer target

Ousmane Diomande is an exciting name on Leeds United's transfer shortlist, but he was snubbed in Ivory Coast's opening World Cup match. The African nation secured a last-gasp winner to pick up three points in their inaugural group game, but Diomande had to watch from the bench. It was quite a surprise to see the Sporting defender not selected, but ultimately, after keeping a clean sheet, Emerse Fae was rewarded for his decision. With Diomande high up on Leeds' shortlist, there may have been many hoping to catch a glimpse of the qualities he has to offer. But, now, those same people may have to wait in order to watch the Leeds target in action. For officials at Elland Road, they may actually hope he does not start a single game at the 2026 World Cup. Why Leeds will be happy with Ousmane Diomande snub The World Cup has the ability to create stars overnight and transfer fees can certainly become inflated. Strong performances on the world stage can put any star into the shop window, and Leeds will be hoping none of their targets make a major splash. In the case of Diomande, they likely got their wish. In Ivory Coast's 1-0 win against Ecuador, the Sporting star got zero minutes. Furthermore, in his place, both Wilfried Singo and Emmanuel Agbadou put on exceptional performances, making his route into the starting squad all the more difficult. Diomande is already holding quite the high fee, with Leeds reportedly poised to break their transfer record. They may be thankful that the Ivorian could now have a limited chance to artificially increase both his price and options in the market. Ousmane Diomande: Leeds target started on 'sandy pitch' and became Ruben Amorim star When are Ivory Coast's next World Cup games? Of course, with strong interest held in Diomande, fans may be wanting to keep a look out just in case he gets to start. For supporters based in the UK, the kick-off times for the final two group games are quite kind. Ivory Coast will face Germany on Saturday, 20 June at 9 pm BST. Meanwhile, they will face Curacao on Thursday, 25 June at 9 pm BST. After their three points against Ecuador, one win should secure Ivory Coast and Diomande's place in the round of 32, while one point would likely see them qualify as one of the best third-placed teams at minimum.

Exit-linked Leeds player only thinking of Premier League as transfer question asked

Ilia Gruev is moving into the summer off the back of a difficult campaign with Leeds United . The Bulgaria international featured for the first time in the Premier League since moving to Elland Road. He joined the Whites in the Championship and had a positive impact when he was available to Daniel Farke . Injuries have taken a toll on his time in Yorkshire and have reduced him to just 51 appearances in the past two season. Only 23 of those came in the Premier League as other options were utilised in the middle of the park last season. That doesn't appear to have impacted Gruev's mentality as he looks to the summer and beyond. Ilia Gruev bats away Bundesliga return question The 26-year-old's future has been questioned in LS11 due to his lack of availability. He was an unused 12 times throughout the season, while being unavailable for a further six. His performances haven't been too great when the chance has come, but that can't be a surprise with the stop-start nature of his campaign. If he were to discuss a departure over the summer there wouldn't be much surprise, although he isn't thinking that way. Speaking in an interview with his former side Werder Bremen , he was asked whether he would like to return to the Bundesliga, but Gruev didn't give in to the speculation. He said: "You can always imagine anything. But I have to say that I really appreciate the Premier League and I really enjoy playing here. Of course, I still follow the Bundesliga, but my focus is on the league in England." Leeds United players react in unison as Ilia Gruev lands new award - 'Incredibly honoured' Gruev should be awarded for Leeds United loyalty After such a difficult few years in LS11, the Bulgarian wouldn't be blamed for wanting a new challenge. With the likes of Anton Stach and Ethan Ampadu doing so well, minutes are always going to be at a premium for other midfield options. That hasn't knocked Gruev and he is still showing signs that he wants to fight and better Farke's side. He adds in the interview with Werder Bremen that he wants Leeds "to become an established Premier League club again", which seems to be his main goal right now. That sort of mentality could be the perfect reason to give him a new contract as his current deal runs out at the end of next season. Leeds needs players who want to play at Elland Road and it is clear that Gruev fits the bill.

MOT View: 'Exquisite' Leeds target showcases quality Farke will love in World Cup display

Ayase Ueda enjoyed a successful campaign in the Eredivisie, earning himself interest from Leeds United . The Japan international ended the league campaign as the top scorer in the Netherlands top-flight, with the 27-year-old now the starting striker for his nation. Interestingly, Ueda's first appearance in the 2026 World Cup would come up against the nation in which he plays his football - the Netherlands. Those interested in signing him, including Leeds, will no doubt have been paying attention as the Asian nation snatched a 2-2 draw in the dying moments. However, for Ueda, he may not be too happy to have many eyes on him with the transfer window officially open as he was quite quiet in an attacking sense. As the world watched on, the 27-year-old failed to make an impact but Daniel Farke will not be put off for one key reason. How Leeds target Ayase Ueda performed against the Netherlands Japan are a growing nation in football, and their squad is filled with a plethora of talent. Ueda is certainly one of those, even if he did not show his true qualities in the opening game of Group F. With the Netherlands dominating the ball, Ueda could barely get involved in the game. He had just 15 touches throughout the match. However, despite his limited touches, there were still plenty of bright moments from the striker. In those few touches of the ball, Ueda did manage to create one chance for his country, as well as complete his only attempted dribble. Ueda also battled well, winning 60 per cent of his ground duels. So, while he did not have as much impact as he would have hoped, in his few moments, he showed glimpses. Additionally, not much blame can be attached to the striker, with Japan being quite timid in their attack for much of the game. Leeds United's World Cup representation at comical levels after Ao Tanaka development Why Farke would have been impressed with Ueda While the statistics show Ueda being uninvolved, the truth is that his pressing and work rate were key for Japan. Ueda had the job of putting pressure on midfielder Frenkie de Jong, and he did that effectively throughout the match. Farke would have enjoyed that off-the-ball work, and Ueda's home nation of Japan were also full of praise for it. According to the outlet, Football Channel JP , Ueda was awarded a 6.5 rating as he "completely neutralized [Frenkie] de Jong with his exquisite positioning." So, the forward may have gone under the radar for his hard work for Japan but knowing Farke, he would have taken notice of those small details.

Music superstar talked into attending Leeds game next season

Olivia Rodrigo may have been talked into attending a Leeds United match. The pop superstar, who has over 64 million monthly listeners on streaming platform Spotify, has revealed her desire to come to the city. The Whites have established themselves as Premier League side after their first season back in the big time, where they finished 14th and stayed up comfortably. After she shared her wish to visit West Yorkshire, the idea of coming to Elland Road was raised. The California-born singer did not exactly shoot down the idea and instead sounded enthusiastic when she responded. We could see her in LS11 sooner rather than later, if something can be sorted out when the new season starts. What did Olivia Rodrigo say about Leeds? Rodrigo could be seen in the famous stadium in the near future, as she may have been talked into attending for the new campaign. Speaking on Hits Radio, she said: “I really want to go to Leeds this year. I think that’ll be fun. Just like as a spectator, I think that’ll be cool.” Host Will Best responded with: “Go to a Leeds match...” Rodrigo replied: “Yeah, ok, ok, ok.” Leeds United are not messing around with Elland Road works after latest Pete Lowy comments Could Rodrigo join Leeds' famous legion of supporters Leeds have a load of famous supporters, who have made appearances at matches. Former boxing champions Josh Warrington and Katie Taylor, Olympians Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee are all fans of Daniel Farke 's side. Comedian Maisie Adam, Ricky Wilson and Simon Rix of the Kaiser Chiefs and Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis are all also Whites supporters. Manchester City star Erling Haaland is also a fan, having been born in the city when his father played for the club. Maybe they could add Rodrigo to the list, if she does actually attend a game and has a good time in the stands. Regardless, having her at a match would likely drive a revenue boost and pick up new casual supporters, as she clearly has legions of dedicated fans all across the world. That would surely only help the Peacocks, in their attempts to establish themselves as one of the biggest clubs in the country. They had been in the doldrums of the Championship and even League One for years, but now it appears that they could become giants again. Attracting one of the biggest celebrities at the moment, if they can pull it off, will only help their appeal to the masses.
